Writing I Grade 1-2
This class is targeted at first- and second-grade students as well as
third-graders
whose writing skills are not at grade level. This introductory writing
class will
teach basic skills that lay the foundation of good writing for years to
come.
There is a strong emphasis on how to write clear, well-written
paragraphs with
appropriate topic sentences, supporting details, and conclusions,
Students will
learn and practice grade-appropriate grammar as well as strong
vocabulary. The
teacher will assess each child¨s progress through weekly writing
assignments
and quizzes, and will keep parents informed so that each child can stay
on track
to meet the goals of each family.
Writing II Grade 3, 4 and 5
This class is targeted at third- and fourth-grade students or
fifth-grade students
whose writing skills are not at grade level. Students will focus on
writing multi-
paragraph essays with a ^hook ̄ to engage the audience, clearly-stated
thesis,
clear topic sentences that tie in to the thesis, well-written body
paragraphs
that use strong vocabulary and keen detail, and concluding paragraphs
that
summarize and wrap up their essays. Students will learn the difference
between
a theme and a thesis statement and between summary and detail. They will
also
learn and practice grade-appropriate grammar, and understand the
multi-step
writing process, from planning to final draft.
Writing III Grade 6, 7 and 8
This class is targeted at middle-school students and advanced
5th-graders. The
class will practice strong writing skills by writing a variety of essays
including
narratives, persuasive essays, cause-and-effect, descriptive essays,
reports,
comparison-contrasts, and literary analysis. Students will become adept
at
composing thesis statements and supporting those theses. They will learn
a
variety of literary techniques such as simile, visualization, hyperbole,
alliteration,
and metaphors, and learn how to apply these techniques to their own
writing.
Reading Comprehension
Comprehension III Grade 6, 7
and 8
Many students can't extract the points from what they
read, though the reading be completed rather quickly. This causes
problems not only for understanding the reading content, but also makes
it impossible to write on points.
This intensive reading comprehension class is expected
to improve students' skill of understanding the content and be able to
get the points quickly and accurately.
